Welcome to the site of study association Euphorion!
Sv Euphorion is the study association of Literary Studies at Utrecht University. A study association is an organization for and by students from the same bachelor, in this case, Literary Studies. A study association, studievereniging in Dutch, is an organization specifically focussed on subjects that are useful for your studies, such as giving information about where to buy your study books and mediating between the university and its students. Besides practical things, we organize lectures, monthly drinks and activities varying from book clubs to literary pub crawls, and from our annual trip to a literary city to watching movies together.
Every third Thursday of the month, our members can be found in a bar for our monthly drinks. We are currently looking for a different bar to go to, so follow our Instagram and Facebook to stay updated on where to be every third Thursday of the month. In addition, lecturers at the UU regularly give lectures about the topics they have the most knowledge about and we want to know the most about. Between blocks three and four, we depart to a large European city to thoroughly explore it during the annual study trip. We also organize evenings revolving around certain literary themes, excursions and – together with other study associations – parties such as the annual Christmas Gala. Moreover, we keep our members informed on the big events and activities in the literary world – and often take them with us too!
Do you not follow the Bachelor’s in Literary Studies but is it your main direction, or do you follow a minor, pre-master or master’s program, or do our activities just seem fun and interesting? You too can become a member of SV Euphorion! Contact us or come to one of our monthly drinks.
More info on becoming a member can be found here.
Take a look at our Facebook, here you will find the latest news, photos, links to interesting articles or videos, spontaneous poems by board members and much more.
For the upcoming academic year (2019-2020) we are again looking for enthusiastic members who want to play a role in the organization of film evenings, book clubs, our annual trip to a literary city, cultural activities and pub crawls (some literary, some not). Would you like to join a Committee? Take a look at the different options here and send an email to email@example.com if you’re interested!
Last but not least, you’ll find a few nice / useful links below:
Modern Language Collaboration is the umbrella study association for modern languages at the UU.
Voorleesexpress (read aloud express) is an initiative to introduce the reading ritual to families with language deficits. A fixed reader comes home to the family every week to read to the children. Many literature students have gone before you, highly recommended!
Het Literatuurhuis (The Literature House) brings literature to the stage. Meet your favorite writer, learn more about that one literary master, discover new books: literature in the broadest sense of the word is covered throughout the year. Poetry during the annual Night of Poetry; poetry slam during the monthly U-Slam and the annual NK Poetry Slam; international literature during the festival City2Cities; literary heritage during the biennial festival Literary Masters and domestic and foreign literature of big and small names during lectures, film screenings and performances throughout the city and in Het Literatuurhuis itself at the Oudegracht. Since September 2013 Het Literatuurhuis has been operating in a monumental building on the Oudegracht, right next to Tivoli. In the back, in the oldest part of the house, is a small room in which small-scale literary programs and film screenings are organized. There are also courses on literary subjects and important authors. At http://www.hetliteratuurhuis.nl you will find all activities and you can also buy tickets. For students there is a special student card: for only 20 euros you can visit 6 shows of your choice!
Interested in an internship / volunteering? That’s possible!
We always work with trainees, both for publicity and production. We prefer to work with students who have a literary background, and thus study, for example, literary studies. Keep an eye on the website for interesting internship vacancies! We also regularly look for volunteers during our festivals. Does that interest you? Mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
